Air-based Products: Introduction
For nearly four decades, Protective Materials Company has been a preferred supplier of modular aircraft armor to the U.S. Military and the military establishments of Allied Nations. Due to its longstanding military connections, Protective Materials is always abreast of the latest developments in materials technology and is continually striving to incorporate this knowledge into improving current and designing new products.
Most recently, Protective Materials Company was awarded the contract by the U.S. Army Materials Command (AMCOM) to manufacture the Ballistic Protection System (BPS) for DOD helicopters. The system features the latest, state-of-the-art technology available today used to create a modular, lightweight, multi-hit capability armor system designed for use in many helicopters currently deployed in "Operation Iraqi Freedom" and "Operation Enduring Freedom."
Protective Materials aircraft armor systems dating as far back as the Vietnam era are still in use today - testament to the durability and diverse engineering expertise involved in developing these systems. Some aircraft where legacy Protective Materials armor systems may still be found include:
UH-1
- MI-17
- Bell 212 & 412
- Hughes 500
